did you know there was one? i didn't. i mean, i've been a fan of the little cake sandwiches since i can remember, but i never knew two states were attempting to claim them as their own. apparently pennsylvania and maine are duking it out over the title "creator of whoopee pies." to which i must reply ... pennsylvania, who are you kidding? i had never even heard of a PA pie until this past weekend. so give it up, the mainers deserve the credit for this one.

um, no way. I grew up eating whoopie pies in PA; it's definitely not a new thing. I've vacationed in Maine for years and have never come across one up there.
ReplyDeletewherever they're from, they're fucking awesome.
ReplyDeleteThese look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWould it be too weird to have these as wedding cake replacements?!
Whoopie Pies are all over Maine and they have been made the official treat of Maine. The fight between Pennsylvania and Maine began because Maine wanted to make the whoopie pie their state dessert. Pa was not having it. If you go on line there is a company called lobster gram. They send fresh lobster out of Maine and they sell the best whoopies. Real Maine seafood and Maine whoopies.
ReplyDeleteYummm these would be great wedding favors or desserts. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Maine, and this is the earliest desert I can remember. Whoopie pies have been a staple of Maine treats for long since before I was born.. To the person who vacationed there... I can imagine you did not see one perhaps becuase you never visited a local corner store or bakery?... I just went back home (I live in Ohio now) and I went into at least four different corner stores and every single store had whoopie pies..
